In the Dark ~ Print Release!

Yep, In the Dark, the first book in my Children of Night series, is now available in print as well as digital format. The book is so yummy looking with its chocolate brown cover, that it's inspiring me to run a little contest.

email me (pgforte@pgforte.com) and tell me the name of the iconic singer-songwriter whose music inspired Suzanne's move to San Francisco (hint: the answer can be found in the prologue) and I'll enter you to win some fabulous Vosges chocolate or a LUSH cosmetic bath bomb. Supply the specific song title (no, that's not spelled out in the prologue, but it's a real easy guess!) and you could also win one of these cool magnets:

Photobucket

I have enough for several winners and I'm running the contest between now and Halloween...hey, what can I say? I'm making this up as I go along!

Click HERE (or on the cover at the top of the page) for more information on this title and to read the prologue.

And now, here's an extra excerpt...

“Isn’t this place fantastic?” Suzanne sighed as they strolled in the shadows of towering redwoods, breathing in all the cool, night scents. The fog was settling in, and between that and the trees, it should have been too dark to see. It wasn’t. Flickering torches, set along the winding paths that cut through the property took care of that. Given the costume she was wearing and the autumn breeze, she should have been shivering with cold. She wasn’t. The man walking beside her, with his electric voice and simmering smile, took care of that. “I don’t believe any of the rumors about it being haunted though, do you? I think it’s more like…well, like being in a fairy tale, or something.”

The sound of Conrad’s soft laughter made her cringe. He smiled indulgently. “A very dark fairy tale, perhaps, yes? Populated with monsters and demons and things too terrible to mention.”

Suzanne bit her lip. Fairy tales. What must he think of her, hearing her talk about such silly things? He was older—how much older, she couldn’t say, but definitely over thirty—and more worldly and cultured and altogether more fascinating than anyone she’d ever met before. And here she was, when she should be trying to act as sophisticated as possible, saying things only a baby would think to say. “I just meant…well, it’s just such a…such a gas to be here, don’t you think so too? I wonder who owns it.”
He slanted a curious look her way. “Don’t you know? Who brought you here, anyway?”
“No one, really. I was with some friends the other day and I guess they’d overheard some other people talking about it. They said they throw parties like this almost every weekend and that it was a real happening scene. So I thought I’d come and see for myself.”

“A happening scene. I see.” They walked a few more steps before Conrad asked, almost hesitantly, “So…is that…is that a good thing then?”
“Conrad! Of course it is!” Laughter bubbled up before she even considered that, perhaps, he was making fun of her, but the look in his eyes told her he wasn’t. “Look around you,” she said, slipping her arm free of his so she could twirl in place, her arms spread wide. “It’s all so…dreamy.” However older and worldly he might be, there were still things he didn’t know. She liked that. She liked the rush of power she got from the thought there were things she could teach him, things she could show him and tell him about—new things, things he might never even think of on his own. The realization left her so jubilant she didn’t even protest when he took hold of her hand and pulled her into his arms.
His kiss was nothing like she’d expected. It was earthy and dark, with just a hint of buried sweetness and a taste that was almost familiar. Tempting, yet somehow forbidden, just like the baker’s chocolate she’d once watched her foster mother use to make a cake.
The tantalizing scent as it melted in the top of the double boiler had made Suzanne salivate. No matter how much she’d begged for a piece, she wasn’t allowed so much as a crumb. So, that night, she’d crept down to the kitchen and stolen a square. It, too, was nothing like she’d expected. Bitter, intense, but exciting, all the same. Like her first sip of coffee. Or her first taste of love.
The press of Conrad’s mouth on hers was hypnotic. She couldn’t break the spell his kiss laid on her even if she’d wanted to. No more than she could keep from moaning in protest when he pulled away. His hand slid across her bare back, took hold of her hair and tugged. She let her head fall back as his open mouth ghosted, warm and wet, over her neck, as though he was searching for just the right spot. Her heart seemed to stop. The night grew still. Even the breeze seemed to settle as she waited, breathless for…something.
It never came.
Instead, Conrad’s mouth reversed course, traveling back up her neck to her ear where he whispered, “So much sweetness. It would be a shame to rush what should be savored. You’ll spend the night with me.”

Six Sentence Sunday--better late than never, I guess.

So I missed the deadline for signing up for Six Sentence Sunday--AGAIN! But the always awesome and enormously talented Alanna Coca and Dee Carney  encouraged me to post this anyway. Thank you, ladies. You rock!

This is from the brand-spanking-new, as yet unreleased second book in the Children of Night series, Old Sins, Long Shadows, for which I have just been offered a contract. Can you tell how excited I am about this?

An instant later, however, even curiosity deserted him under the weight of a momentous discovery. Damian’s lips seemed to fit Conrad’s mouth so perfectly it was as though they’d been divinely crafted for just that purpose. Made for me. The thought was so alien it would have shocked him had he still been able to think clearly, but Damian’s tongue darted between Conrad’s lips and hunger churned anew. Thinking clearly was no longer a possibility. He was made for me.

A Buggy Kind of Day

I think Mary Chapin Carpenter said it best: "Sometimes you're the windshield, sometimes you're the bug." And I'm having a buggy kind of day...week...month...whatever. The kind of day when *gasp!* even chocolate doesn't help. A nice, hot bubble bath might, but my new tattoo is still healing, so no baths for me.

You ever have one of those days--days when even the smallest things annoy you; days when the good news you're waiting to hear or the new books you're hoping will arrive...doesn't/don't come?

It's one of those days when I feel like Mike in this scene from Let Me Count the Ways (available HERE):

“Claire.” Mike groaned in response. He pulled me close once more, muttering between kisses, “You don’t know what it does when you say those things. These last weeks have been hell. I couldn’t eat, couldn’t sleep, couldn’t think straight.”

Huh? Bracing my hands against his chest, I pushed him away a little. “Why’s that?”

“Because! I didn’t know where I stood with you, or what you wanted. You were so vague when I asked about seeing you again. And you left so quickly.”

What the hell? “Mike, I was perfectly clear. I said it would be nice, didn’t I? Or something to that effect.”

He groaned again. “That’s just what I mean. Too vague. Too polite. I wanted a simple yes or no.”

Amused now, I couldn’t help but murmur, “Really? You’d rather I’d said no?”

Yep, that's me all right. I don't really want the answer I'm waiting for to be "no," but at this point it would almost be a relief. I guess I just want the suspense to be over.

So, what about you? Ever have days like this? Is there anything in particular you do to make yourself feel better? If there is, I'd love to hear about it!

Meanwhile, here's Mary singing today's theme song. Enjoy!

When is a Serial More than a Serial?

When is a multi-part serial story posted on a blog more than just another free read? When it's the Zillionaire Vampire Cowboy's Secret Werewolf Babies--that's when!

Not sure if you believe me? Well check out the awesome trailer:

Starting tomorrow--September 9th--and continuing every Thursday until January 6th, the Nine Naughty Novelists invite you to join them in beautiful, bucolic Bloodsuck, Texas for a story that some of us have described as "laugh out loud funny" "stupendously hysterical" a "steamy western paranormal category multi-part romance mashup and "the most historically accurate vampire-cowboy-werewolf-baby story ever penned."*

* Important Announcement: recent FTC guidelines regarding endorsements, testimonials, etc. may require us to make the following Critical Disclosure.  The opinions expressed in the previous paragraph may have been solicited by us and from us. However, they were based solely on the opinions of us...not that we'd ever be biased or anything.  In addition, these opinions do not, in any way, shape or form have anything whatsoever to do with our having gotten to read the free story for free. We double-dutch pinkie swear and totally cross our hearts on that!

But wait! It gets even better! The Zillionaire Vampire Cowboy wants to give you a little nookie...er, we mean a little nook.

Here's how it works: Every Thursday we post a new chapter and you post new comments. Every blog comment you post (one comment per chapter), and every tweet/retweet using the #bloodsuck hashtag (tweets/retweets are unlimited, check here for details) enters you in our contest and puts you in the running to win a free nook.

Every blog comment you leave earns you 5 entries.

Every time you tweet something about ZVCSWB using the #bloodsuck hashtag you earn 2 entries.

And every time you retweet something about ZVCSWB using the #bloodsuck hashtag, you earn an additional 1 entry.

Could we have made things any more complicated and given our Contest-Mistress-slash-Entry-Aggregator even more work to do? Yes. Would we? It's possible. Don't tempt us.

So come early, come often. Welcome to Bloodsuck. Have some wine.

An Excerpt from Visions Before Midnight

I'm blogging about Epilogues today at Nine Naughty Novelists and happened to mention the Epilogue from Visions Before Midnight. So, for the benefit of those of you who are interested, here's the epilogue in its entirety.

Yes, it contains some minor spoilers--Perdonarme! But nothing too blatant...I hope. Enjoy!

Epilogue
Three Weeks Later

Late November
The Long Snows Moon

The full moon shed its light upon the barren ground as a lone figure made his way through the silent forest; his hands stained with blood, his heart filled with laughter.

The house toward which he was headed had stood empty for many years. It had been a mansion, once, though; home to one of Oberon’s most prominent families. Until it, and the family, had fallen on hard times.

But times change. That was something you could always count on, Gregg thought, smiling slightly as he let himself in through the kitchen door. You could count on blood. You could count on death. And, you could always count on that bitch-mother time; to slap you down, to make you old, and then, when you least expected it, to pick you up by the hair and put you back on her tit.

Gregg rubbed his hand over his shaved skull and laughed softly. So, okay, maybe not by the hair, in his case. But, he was definitely back in Mama’s lap now. And that was fine by him. It beat being married to the bitch, after all. He’d grown old lying in Time’s bed, getting fucked by the old hag, year after year; locked away in a cell, waiting for his chance, thinking about all the mistakes he’d made––and figuring out how not to make them again next time around.

That was something else you could say about Time. She was a hard teacher, but a damn good one. He knew just what to do now, how to put himself back on top.

He looked around the cold, dirty kitchen. The house was going to take some work to get ready. It would take money, too, but he had plenty of that. And, soon, it would make the perfect Ashram. The perfect Church. The perfect home base for the cult he was going to start, right here in Oberon.

He couldn’t have asked for a better set up. The house was large enough to bed an army, it was secluded enough to escape detection, and it was located on one of the biggest psychic hot-spots on the face of the planet. He got hard just thinking about all the sensitives who he’d draw here; to exploit and to use.
All the seekers of truth and knowledge. All the seekers of power, too. Angels and devils. They were searching after such very different things, and yet...how very much alike they were at heart. Easy to fool. Easy to manipulate. All of them so desperate to find the answers; so willing to believe you when you told them that they had.

There was only one thing that still frustrated him. Sinead Quinn. She’d eluded him again. And, just when he thought he had her, too. For weeks he’d sworn he’d felt her responding to his call. He’d felt her mind as it struggled to resist him, he’d felt her refusal to yield, and all the pain that refusal cost her. And then...nothing. Maybe it had been too much for her. It could be he’d frightened her away again; or maybe, this time, he’d killed her.

That was a possibility, he supposed. It had always been a risk, after all. But great rewards were worth great risks. Especially in this case––where she took the risk and he’d have taken the reward.

Still, it was a disappointment. She’d fucked his record. She was the only one who’d ever gotten away from him––the only one who mattered, that is. But, if she was that easy to kill, he guessed he really didn’t need her anymore, anyway. He’d find someone else to dream for him. Someone stronger, tougher. Oberon was full of such talent.

He passed through the kitchen, through the narrow butler’s pantry with its walls of shelves, through the paneled dining room, and then up the stairs and into his bedroom. His eyes narrowed. The girl was asleep; curled up on his bed in a tight, little ball. He’d told her to stay awake, but had she listened? No.
Not really a surprise. Not really a disappointment, either, since it would give him another excuse to discipline her. That was always fun. Occasionally, of course, it went too far. Then you had a body to dispose of, which could be a problem. And, he didn’t need any problems right now.

But, maybe he had one, anyway? The fact that she was still alive was not a good sign. He really should have killed her that first night.

She was supposed to have been disposable. She had no psychic power worth speaking of, no special abilities, no talents. At least, none that were spirit based. There were some things she did very well, but that, perhaps, was not surprising, either. She was young, she was female, and he’d been locked away for a very long time. It could just be the novelty had yet to wear off.

He’d planned on making her his ritual sacrifice. A welcome home present to himself. But something had changed his mind. A couple of things, actually.

First of all, he’d already had his kill; that old nun who’d testified against him, and helped send him away. He’d returned the favor, and helped send her to the afterlife. It was just too bad she was already more than half dead when he found her. It would have been so much more fun if she’d struggled a little more. It would have been so much more satisfying if she’d died more slowly. A lot more slowly.

Which was why he took the girl. She was young. She was strong. He knew she would struggle. And, oh, yeah, he thought, fingering the newly healed scratches she’d left on his face and neck. She’d definitely struggled.

But, he hadn’t counted on her personality being what it was. He hadn’t expected to find someone whose darker side was almost as dark as his own. It intrigued him. It still intrigued him. He hadn’t planned on being intrigued.

Sometimes, the fun you didn’t plan for became the greatest fun of all.

It would still be fun to watch her die, of course. But, for now, it was more fun to watch her live. And learn. And change. To watch her soul grow darker, and darker...

After that he could kill her.

Thursday Thirteen: Favorite Quotes from the PropH8 Ruling

Yesterday, Judge Vaughn Walker released his decision finding California's Prop 8 unconstitutional. If you haven't read the 136 page ruling, you should because it's beautifully crafted and I no longer begrudge him the time it took to get it all worked out. lol! No, really, I couldn't  imagine what was taking so long. This did not seem to me to be a difficult decision. Whatever. It was worth the wait. You can download the full ruling here: http://tinyurl.com/2dnuweo And I strongly suggest you do, because it's fascinating reading!

But, in the meantime, here are 13 quotes pulled from the ruling more or less at random--because, seriously, this document is gold. if I had to pick the best 13 quotes, I don't know that I could!

#1. Same-sex couples are identical to opposite-sex couples in the characteristics relevant to the ability to form successful marital unions. Like opposite-sex couples, same-sex couples have happy, satisfying relationships and form deep emotional bonds and strong commitments to their partners. Standardized
measures of relationship satisfaction, relationship adjustment and love do not differ depending on whether a couple is same sex or opposite-sex.

#2. The availability of domestic partnership does not provide gays and lesbians with a status equivalent to marriage because the cultural meaning of marriage and its associated benefits are intentionally withheld from same-sex couples in domestic partnerships.

#3. Proposition 8 does not affect the First Amendment rights of those opposed to marriage for same-sex couples. Prior to Proposition 8, no religious group was required to recognize marriage for same-sex couples.

#4. Proposition 8 singles out gays and lesbians and legitimates their unequal treatment. Proposition 8 perpetuates the stereotype that gays and lesbians are incapable of forming long-term loving relationships and that gays and lesbians are not good parents.

#5. The gender of a child’s parent is not a factor in a child’s adjustment. The sexual orientation of an individual does not determine whether that individual can be a good parent. Children raised by gay or lesbian parents are as likely as children raised by heterosexual parents to be healthy, successful and well-adjusted. The research supporting this conclusion is accepted beyond serious debate in the field of
developmental psychology.

#6. Religious beliefs that gay and lesbian relationships are sinful or inferior to heterosexual relationships harm gays and lesbians.

#7. The Proposition 8 campaign relied on fears that children exposed to the concept of same-sex marriage may become gay or lesbian. The reason children need to be protected from samesex
marriage was never articulated in official campaign advertisements. Nevertheless, the advertisements insinuated that learning about same-sex marriage could make a child gay or lesbian and that parents should dread having a gay or lesbian child.

#8. California, like every other state, has never required that individuals entering a marriage be willing or able to procreate.

#9. Marriage is the state recognition and approval of a couple’s choice to live with each other, to remain committed to one another and to form a household based on their own feelings
about one another and to join in an economic partnership and support one another and any dependents.

#10. Marriage benefits both spouses by promoting physical and psychological health. Married individuals are less likely to engage in behaviors detrimental to health, like smoking or
drinking heavily. Married individuals live longer on average than unmarried individuals.

#11. Same-sex love and intimacy are well-documented in human history. The concept of an identity based on object desire; that is, whether an individual desires a relationship with someone of the opposite sex (heterosexual), same sex (homosexual) or either sex (bisexual), developed in the late
nineteenth century.

#12. Individuals do not generally choose their sexual orientation. No credible evidence supports a finding that an individual may, through conscious decision, therapeutic intervention or any other method, change his or her sexual orientation.

#13. California has no interest in asking gays and lesbians to change their sexual orientation or in reducing the number of gays and lesbians in California.

While most of the other angels-in-training move quickly up the celestial ladder, Edge knows it can never be that simple for him. He’s dealing with issues that are a lot more complicated than a simple lack of closure.

While Edge doesn’t know for sure what it will take to get him into Heaven, there is one thing he’s certain won’t help -- his latest assignment guiding angel-baby Matteo Matinucci while the newbie find his wings.

But twenty-something Mattie -- sexy, beautiful, recently departed, and openly gay -- could turn out to be the answer to all of Edge’s prayers, as well as the fulfillment of all his fantasies, even the hot, sweaty, secret ones he’s never confided to anyone. And by helping to send Mattie to Heaven, Edge just might end up saving both their souls.

New Release! Edge of Heaven

My new book, Edge of Heaven is now available at Loose Id! Edge is one of those serendipitous stories where the opening pretty much wrote itself, after which the whole story seemed to stall. You see, Edge refused to admit he was gay. He even had me convinced for awhile. Once Mattie showed up, however, all Edge's lies started to unravel. The story came together pretty fast after that.

I really have to thank my wonderful editor for believing in this story and coaxing me through several rounds of edits.  Personally, I think it's possibly the most humorous book I've written to date. I hope you'll enjoy it!

More information (or to buy the book) visit Loose Id.  To read another excerpt (okay, maybe two excerpts) visit my website at: www.PGForte.com

And now, here's the blurb and small sneak peek...

It was a reckless act of passion that ended Edge’s life and left his soul in limbo—literally. Now, he’s stuck here. While most of the other angels-in-training move quickly up the celestial ladder, Edge knows it can never be that simple for him. He’s dealing with issues that are a lot more complicated than a simple lack of closure.

While Edge doesn’t know for sure what it will take to get him into heaven, there is one thing he’s certain won’t help—his latest assignment guiding angel-baby Matteo Matinucci while the newbie find his wings.

But twenty-something Mattie—sexy, beautiful, recently departed and openly gay—could turn out to be the answer to all of Edge’s prayers, as well as the fulfillment of all his fantasies, even the hot, sweaty, secret ones he’s never confided to anyone.

Excerpt:

Matt runs his fingers along my jaw. My heart is racing, but this time I don’t resist the caress. His eyes are hot on my face as he slides a cautious hand to the back of my neck. We’ve been here before. My heart beats faster at the thought. And knowing he means to draw me in for another kiss, I beat him to it. Grabbing hold of his shirt, I yank him forward. He dips his head; I lift my face. There’s an instant of confusion as we jockey for position, but finally our mouths connect. Lips parting. Tongues touching. Breath mingling. He sighs with something that sounds a lot like relief, and it’s all I can do to keep from whimpering in response. This time I want more than a taste. This time I want everything. I want it all. To hell with the consequences.
As I press him closer, I sense the shift beginning. The space around us alters, and the hall disappears. I don’t know where we’re going, and I truly don’t care. It’s Matteo who breaks the kiss, eyes wide with surprise. “Where are we now? Edge, what is this place?”
I cast a quick appraising glance at our surroundings. We’re in a bedroom -- which doesn’t exactly surprise me -- and a damn nice one too from what I can see of it. “Beats me. Don’t you know?”
He shakes his head. “No. Why would I? I mean, it looks a little familiar, I guess, but not really.”
“Interesting.” I take another look. The bed is huge. It completely dominates the room -- much in the same way the idea of what we’re about to do dominates my thoughts. It doesn’t take a genius to make the connection -- to guess which of us is responsible for that part of the illusion. Embarrassed, I pull my gaze away from it. Through an open archway, I catch a glimpse of marble and tile from what I can only assume is a sunken tub. Everything is decorated in rich shades of burgundy, chocolate, and gold lit by firelight from an immense stone fireplace, and if all that sounds like it might be a little over the top, a little too gaudy or girlie, I’m describing it wrong.
Because it’s not like that. Not at all. It’s just warm and comfortable and solid. It feels right -- just like all of this does. It feels like home, except it’s nowhere I’ve ever seen and a lot nicer than most of the places I’ve been. “I guess it’s ours, then.”
“What do you mean ‘it’s ours’? How can it be ours? That would kind of imply there’s an us…wouldn’t it?”
Again with the talking? I bite back a sigh. Having finally made up my mind to do this, I’d really appreciate it if we could get on with it before I come to my senses and try and back out of the deal. “Don’t read so much into it. All I meant was that it’s probably our combined thoughts that created everything here rather than just one of us alone.”
He gazes around again. “So…we did this? Together?”
“Pretty much.”
“With our thoughts? Like with the drinks and the pretzels and the clothes…only more so?”
“Pretty much.” I run my hands over his chest, getting a charge from the illicit thrill of touching him like this. I know it’s okay. I know it’s what we came here for, but it still feels just as wrong as it feels right.
“And it’s ours? Meaning we can do whatever we want here?”
A shudder runs through me. “Whatever we want. Yes.” His words echo in my mind. If that’s not an invitation to sin, I don’t know what is. Images fill my head, thoughts of everything that simple phrase could possibly contain. My cock pulses impatiently. I clear my throat. “That kinda would be the general idea.”

When Writing Worlds Collide

I'm blogging today about all the fun and freaky serendipity that occurs when you share muses with other authors. Muses who seem inclined to save time by multi-tasking, I might add.

To read all about it, visit the Nine Naughty Novelists at:

I also want to announce a new release coming soon. Edge of Heaven (published by Loose Id) is being released on July 20. Yes, just two weeks away and I wish I had a cover to share with you, but sadly that's still in the works. Sigh.

Those of you who know me, know how excruciatingly hard I find it to wait on covers. While we're waiting, here's a blurb and excerpt:

Welcome to the afterlife, where men are men and the angels are fallen...

Edge is an unlikely angel. Unable to atone for the sins he committed while human, he's resigned to spending the rest of eternity in Limbo. Until he meets a miracle named Mattie.

It was a reckless act of passion that ended Edge’s life and left him in Limbo—literally.

And by helping to send Mattie to Heaven, Edge just might end up saving both their souls.

Warning: This book contains angels in the afterlife, a host of heavenly hotties worth falling for, and man on man angel sex—so good, you’ll be dying to get some.

Excerpt:

Prologue

People have all sorts of misconceptions about angels. They think we’re perfect. They think we don’t have feelings or emotions or lust after each other’s bodies -- and occasionally after yours as well. That’s nonsense. Of course we do. We’re only human, after all. Or at least some of us were. Once.

My name is Edge. I’m an angel. And this is my story.

I understand how confusing it might seem at first, all the questions you’re probably asking yourself. Like aren’t angels and humans fundamentally different? Aren’t we completely separate species? Weren’t angels created first? The simple answer to all those questions is yes. But whoever said the universe was simple?

There’s nothing uncomplicated about the human heart. There’s nothing easy when it comes to free will. If you consider all the trouble a soul can get itself into, or if you think about all the tasks the celestial hosts are called on to perform, you’ll see why it only makes good sense for there to be more than one type of angel in the world. Besides, if you’d ever caught even a glimpse of one of the seraphim -- those fierce and fearsome creatures forever on fire to do battle against the forces of darkness -- you’d think twice too about using them as messengers to ordinary people. Never mind sending one of them to stand watch over the kiddies while they sleep!

The path to becoming an angel is actually far easier than you might imagine. All you have to do is lose your soul. That’s another concept many people find difficult to grasp. Soul loss. It’s something else that comes entirely too easily to most of us. Sudden death, violence, a lack of closure, guilt -- that’s all it takes sometimes. You lose your way. You disconnect. Your soul fractures. The next thing you know, you’re waking up here. Stuck in limbo. Unable to move on to heaven…or the next plane of existence…your next lifetime…

Okay, you want the truth? We don’t really know where we’re supposed to go from here. All we know is we aren’t going anywhere. Not yet. Not until we’ve found our closure, mended our fences, or in some cases, performed a truly unselfish act.

Unselfish. Now that’s hard.

Most of the folks here don’t have it as tough as that. They’ve just got closure issues to deal with. Closure is a piece of cake. It’s something almost anyone can manage once they’re ready for it. I’ve seen people find closure in the damnedest things. But unselfish acts -- truly unselfish acts? Well, that’s a whole nother story.

Take me, for example. I committed suicide. That’s what landed me here. And you really can’t get much more self-absorbed than that.

Poetry Sunday

come check it out! Today's Sunday Flash Fiction has turned into a poetry fest at Silver EXpressions!

The original theme was weather--and I thought that was hot. But all the poetry it's inspired is truly awesome.

A little less awesome, but perfect for this very sunny Summer Sunday, is one of my own poems, posted below. And if, after reading it, you feel like you just have to have this wonderful poem to read over and over again (yeah, I know I'm tripping, right? Think maybe somebody laced my iced tea or something? *g*) you can download it, and a whole bunch of others right HERE Enjoy!

SUNDAY AFTERNOON/PUBLIC SWIM TIME

Boys at the pool crash through sparkling water, push each other under,
come up splutteringsplashing, water dripping from their long, long lashes.
Teeth flashing giant smiles, they toss, or try to toss, each other
through the air. Then push each other under, once again.

Water is the perfect medium in which to play
adding grace and speed and power to their movements.
They immerse themselves entirely without ever losing sight
of who they are, or where the water ends and they begin.

Girls at the pool –– at play –– they bob and sway. They weave
their way through intricate dances, set to music only they can hear.
They pause. Engage in conversation. Bask in mutual admiration.
Exchange encoded messages bubbled in each other’s ears.

They float. They leap and dive. They look like large enchanted flowers,
like rainbow painted porpoises at play.
In this turquoise–colored, sunscreen–scented, chlorinated otherworld
they are set free.

Now the boys: a roiling, rollicking mass, lurch through the pool
like a piston driven steam engine gone wild
arms and legs churn the water, waves erupt around them
pushing everything out of their path.

Girls scatter like a flock of birds.
Some––bursting into tears––emit small, wounded cries.
Some shrieking in mock terror while joy sparkles in their eyes.
Frowns crease the flower faces: They dare not approve such rude behavior.

They’re still too young to be enchanted by the boys’ antics.
The boys, too young to care, too young to charm,
too young to yearn to be entangled
in their floating coils of hair.

Indifferent to the differences that link them.
Their lives as magnets have not yet begun.
For now, the boys recede. The girls resume their labyrinth patterns.
Water ebbs and swells and ripples all around.

On the dancing waves,
time has cast a silver net
to capture them all

Let me Eat Cake: A Cautionary Tale for Writers

I suppose I should know better than to blog on an empty stomach. Weird things happen when I do. Perfectly ordinary posts about morally ambiguous heroes (and why I don't like them) turn into odes about--of all things--cake.

Yes, I said cake. How are men like cake? What kinds of men are like cake--and what kinds of cake are they like? Well, you can find the whole post by visiting the Nine Naughty Novelists. Better eat something first!

Wacky Wedding Stories

If you like weddings and you like entertainment, check out the Nine Naughty Novelists.

We're blogging today about wedding/anniversary stories. We've got music, pictures, videos...okay, only one of each of those. But still, who knew there could be so much drama? I missed out on so much by eloping. lol!

Stop by and add a story/comment...or links to your own wedding pics, videos, etc.! One lucky commenter will win a copy of Meg Benjamin’s Wedding Bell Blues.

And, just because I love embedding things into blogs--I'm sure it's a huge psychological issue, but let's not get into that. Here's Frank Sinatra singing My Way.

Why, My Way, you ask? What does this have to do with weddings? Well, aside from the fact that I grew up in Northern New Jersey (AKA Francis Albert land) it so happens this was the song I sang (as part of a drunken duet, if you must know) at the party we had in lieu of a wedding/reception. I  really wasn't kidding about the elopement. My singing partner was not my husband--he doesn't drink...doesn't really sing either. Although, that probably wouldn't have mattered) so much in this case! Anyway...I sang it (while seated on top of a picnic table--really gotta love them) with the boy next door. Technically, the boy across the street.  Whatever.  It was epic. It's such a shame most of the guests were gone by that point...

Letters I Wish I'd Sent. Part I.

Dear fellow driver,

If the lane in which I am traveling becomes suddenly obstructed by improperly parked vehicles, I will be merging into your lane--and signaling same by my use of my car's left blinker.

If my car is ahead of yours when said merge occurs, a high probability exists that I will be cutting you off. However, assuming you are observing the posted 25 MPH speed limit, and paying proper attention to ambient road conditions, this should pose no problem for you.

Before you decide to pull up alongside me at the next light, and commence screaming and cursing like the crazy person you appear to be, I suggest you keep in mind the following three points.

 # 1.I did not "almost hit you".
# 2. Almost only counts in horseshoes anyway.
# 3. Had there been an actual collision in which the front of your car impacted the rear of mine, that would have been you hitting me.

That's okay--I'll let it go this time.

Since out here in "the real world" (as opposed to the virtual world where you are, possibly, more used to driving) no such accident occurred (ie nothing happened!) I suggest you make an immediate appointment with your physician, as you may need to have your meds adjusted.

Have a nice day.

Easter Egg Blog Hop (stop #3)

Welcome to stop #3 on the Easter Egg Blog Hop! You should be coming here from  Olivia Brynn's site. If, on the other hand, you've just stumbled across this post by accident,  head over to Christa Paige's blog to get in on the fun. We've put together a lot of eye candy for your viewing pleasure, along with the chance to win a basket full of ebooks.

After you check out my post, please head over to my website, to find the egg I've "hidden" there.

Hint  #1: I'm featuring information about my book, Dream Under the Hill, which is one of the books you could win this weekend.

Just click on the egg when you find it and it will take you to the next stop on the bunny trail. The entry form to win the Easter Basket of goodies is located at the end of the tour.

The hop will be running  all weekend, so if you have to take a break and cool down  from all of these hotties, just bookmark the page where you've stopped, and return to the tour at your convenience.

Winners will be chosen Easter Sunday 4/4/10 at 7pm EST, and announced at the Liquid Silver Books forum . Happy hunting, and good luck!

Now, on to the eye candy:

I guess it's no secret I like themes. For this weekend's theme I picked hot guys and bunnies. It was harder than you might think.

This guy was beautiful, but a tad overdressed...

This guy...wow. I know size isn't supposed to matter, but that's one BIG bunny...

Nice arms, though. I do like arms...have I mentioned that?  Oh, yeah.

Anyway, this guy took the whole 'bunny-boy' theme a little too far, IMO.

I even found a video on YouTube that I thought might work. It's a homage to the character Roman "Bunny" Wild on the German soap Alles was zählt. It might be stretching the bunny motif a little, but hey, eye candy is eye candy--right?

But I finally gave up on the bunnies and decided to just go with the hot guy:

I think I made the right choice, what about you?

Remember to check out my website (Hint #2: you might have to do a little scrolling) to pick up the trail...
