Romance Writers Weekly ~ Favorite Movie ~ #LoveChatWrite

This week, on the Romance Writers Weekly blog hop, we're asked the question: "If you could see one movie again for the first time, what would it be and why?"

Well, that's an interesting question. My first instinct was to say something like Practical Magic or Field of Dreams--because I love them both and  they feel like the kinds of story I write. Or maybe one of Lawrence Kasdan's films from the 80s--The Big Chill or Silverado, because they're just perfectly filmed movies--and they both have big ensemble casts. Also similar to my books.

But I think I'm going to go with Star Wars--the ORIGINAL film (AKA Episode Four, A New Hope). I don't know what it was that made that film such a cultural event. I didn't know then, either. But I do remember lining up for hours to watch it--over and over and over again.

It had such a huge impact on society, and as I said, I never quite understood why. But I do think it would be fun to watch it again WITHOUT knowing everything that came after. Without knowing about the body-shaming issues Carrie Fischer had to deal with while making the films; without knowing about the accident that would change Mark Hamill's face. And without the weirdness that has filtered in thanks to the subsequent films. I'd really like to watch it again without thinking, "Is Luke really going to kiss his sister?" "Did Darth Vader just torture his own daughter?"

There's a lesson there, I think, for authors of series. And the lesson is: THINK THINGS THROUGH BEFOREHAND. Because, otherwise, ICK!

Now, hop on over to Jenna Da Sie's page to find out what movie she'd like to watch again for the first time.

Romance Writers Weekly ~ Childhood Crush ~ #LoveChatWrite

This week, on the Romance Writers Weekly blog hop, we're asked the question: "Who was your childhood actor/actress crush?"

Wow, I feel like I'm really gonna be showing my age with this answer. I didn't really have a lot of childhood crushes--or any, really. I actually recall being told I had to choose one, because all my friends, cousins, etc. had them and I did not. Eventually, I  chose Bobby Sherman (not exactly an unpopular choice). I think there might have been a poster involved?

For those claiming he was a singer rather than an actor, he starred in the TV show Here Come the Brides. He played the youngest of three brothers--Jeremy. The three brothers all had names that started with J (Jason and Joshua being the other brothers).

Fun Fact:  my husband and his siblings all have names that begin with J as well.

Jeremy was also the name of the character Robby Benson played in the movie of the same name. I recall thinking he was pretty cute, too. Years later, when I was living in Los Angeles, my family (husband, son, and I at the time--I think this was before my daughter was born) went to brunch at Gladstone's in Malibu, which used to be my favorite spot, before they changed ownership and their menu, and Robby Benson was at the next table with his wife and daughter.

Anyway...this has been a delightful trip down memory lane, and I'll be taking another one with the re-release of my Oberon series starting next month. See below for details. I'm super excited to be revisiting my very first (and possibly my favorite) series.

Now, hop on over to Leslie Hachtel's page and find out who her childhood crush was. And don't forget to check out her book, Stay With Me.

Romance Writers Weekly ~ Walking Out On A Date ~ #LoveChatWrite

This week, on the Romance Writers Weekly blog hop, we're asked the question: "What is one article of clothing that someone could wear that would make you walk out on a date with them?"

Uh...that's almost too easy.  Dating is supposed to be fun, and I'm an introvert who already has a limited amount of energy when it comes to socializing. So, if my date were to show up wearing anything that suggests that our world views or political beliefs are incompatible, that would pretty much do it for me. Either that or a T-shirt with an overly crude or misogynistic message. Life's too short. I'm too old. And ain't nobody got time for that.

Anyway...hop on over to Jill Haymaker's page now, to see what she has to say on the subject. And don't forget to check out her book, Montana Pines Spring Forward.

Montana Pines Spring Forward  A heartwarming romance that will leave you cheering for love to conquer all obstacles.

What COLBY HARTE didn’t ask for at Christmas was his wife to empty their bank accounts and leave him and his eight-year-old daughter, Emma, a few days before the holiday. At a loss as to how to move on, he takes a new teaching job in the tiny Montana mountain town of Pine Meadows. A new start may be just what they need.

CHEYENNE MITCHELL loves her job at the Pine Meadows Resort in her hometown. The trouble is she’s just turned thirty and can feel her biological clock ticking away. She’s never met a man who made her want to settle down. That all changes when Colby Harte walks into her bar.

Christmas Angel

Being fully transparent is good for a relationship, right? Well, maybe not when it’s literal.

Christmas Angel is a second-chance, holiday romance with a celestial twist. Jake’s been sent back to earth to mend fences with his ex. Or has he? Certainly Tony doesn’t seem to think that's the case.

Tony might have ninety-nine problems—and then some—between dealing with his meddlesome family AND running the family business (a Christmas tree farm in rural Texas) but he's pretty sure that playing catch-up with his ex-husband isn’t supposed to be one of them. It’s a little hard to imagine what kind of future the two of them could have when only one of them is alive.

Romance Writers Weekly ~ Where Would You Live? ~ #LoveChatWrite

This week, on the Romance Writers Weekly blog hop, we're asked the question: "If you could live anywhere in the world for a year, where would it be?"

Wow, that's a tough one. I've already lived in a lot of my favorite places and I  have moved entirely too many times to be all that excited about the idea of living anywhere for just one year, if it means I'd have to move again at the end of it. But, ignoring that, and without listing any of the cool places I've already lived in (NYC, LA, Berkeley, Newport Beach, Laguna, Napa, Paso Robles ) then I suppose...Paris, Killarney, somewhere in Sicily (the only one I haven't been to yet). Or, I don't know. Some tiny little seaside town somewhere--like the ones I'm always writing about.

Anyway... why don't you hop on over to Brenda Margriet's page now and find out where she'd chose to live. And don't forget to check out her book, Too Good for Words
