Romance Writers Weekly ~ Book Review ~ #loveChatWrite

This week, on the Romance Writers Weekly blog hop, we're asked to remember that writers are readers too and to "Write a review for a book within your genre."

The book I'm reviewing today is one I just finished reading--Hexed in Show, the latest in Gretchen Galway's Sonoma Witch series. This series is right up my alley: romance, mystery, suspense and witchy goings-on in a magical small California town.  Sounds just like my Oberon series, doesn't it? And, by the way, the first in that series, Scent of the Roses is re-releasing today! Woo-hoo! Check below for details.

Hexed in Show continues the adventures of Alma Bellrose. I really liked this story--Alma is confident in her power, comfortable in her friendships, secure in her allies. The danger to her doesn't feel as personal as in some of the earlier books. Spoiler alert: that's so ironic! Also, there are magical garden installations that I desperately wish were real.

I am a notoriously picky reader when it comes to anything I feel I have a proprietary interest in. And the San Francisco Bay area (in particular the North and East Bay) definitely falls into that category. Nothing breaks through my suspension of disbelief faster than real-life details that fail to correspond with my own memories and experiences. This has been the case with a lot--dare I say most--of Galway's books. But I couldn't find anything that irritated me with this latest book. This is something I particularly appreciated because it's been two long years since the last book in the series, and I've been jonesing for a hit.

Now, hop on over to Brenda Margriet's page to read her review. And don't forget to check out her book, TOO GOOD FOR WORDS--releasing in just over two weeks!

Romance Writers Weekly ~ Books to Movies ~ #LoveChatWrite

This week, on the Romance Writers Weekly blog hop, we're asked the question: "If one of your books could be made into a movie, which one would you pick and what actors would you like to play your characters?"

The answer is ALL OF THEM. I would love to see any book or any of my series made into a movie or TV series. Since I'm currently working to re-release Scent of the Roses--the first book in my Oberon series--I'll go with that one. I think Blake Lively would make a great Scout Patterson and Jensen Ackles could totally nail the part of Nick Greco.

How easy was that? lol!

Now, hop on over to Jill Haymaker's page to find out what she has to say about this tricky question. And don't forget to check out her book, Christmas in Montana Pines, now available for pre-order.

Get a jump on the holiday season with this seasoned romance that proves it’s never too late for a second chance at romance, especially during the holidays. Set on a beautiful Montana horse ranch, can two 60 year olds find a love to last a lifetime?

Romance Writers Weekly ~ Similar Authors ~ #LoveChatWrite

This week, on the Romance Writers Weekly blog hop, we're asked the question: "Tell us what other author writes books and stories most similar to yours and why?"

Wow. I wish I had an easy answer, but I really don't. My very favorite editor compared my vampires to Anne Rice on multiple occasions and I NEVER tired of hearing that!  A critique partner once compared my small town contemporaries to Jennifer Cruisie--I didn't hate that either. But the problem is, I write in multiple sub-genres and that tends to complicate things.

I feel like I  modeled my career on authors like Elizabeth Peters and Jayne Ann Krentz because they wrote/write both contemporary and paranormal.

But honestly, I don't know. I think writers are the WORST at figuring things like that out. We're too close to our own work. There are authors I WISH I wrote more like, but that's not the same thing at all!

Now, hop on over to Jill Haymaker's page to find out what she has to say about this tricky question. And don't forget to check out her book, Come Home to Love.

Come Home to Love is free for your kindle today through Friday.

Riley Beckman has spent the last six years trying to be the perfect single parent to her daughter, Ava. The result of a one-night-stand with a handsome cowboy, Riley didn’t even know his last name when he rode off into the morning sunrise. By the time she discovered she was pregnant, all she could do was make the best of the amazing gift she’d been given. She hadn’t needed a man to establish a happy home for herself and her daughter.

Justin Thorne, known to his friends as JT, has been a nomad since leaving home at eighteen. A cowhand, he’s traveled ranch to ranch and state to state, never staying in any one place long enough to put down roots. Still there was that one night and one girl he could never quite forget. When fate brings him back to the tiny Colorado Mountain town of Aspen Ridge, will he get a second chance? And what happens when he discovers he left behind more than just a girl?

While JT struggles with the fact that he’s been an absent father for six years, Riley fears the worst. Will he try to take her child? Or can the three of them find the family they’ve only dreamed of?
